Slovakia looks to deepen strategic ties
President Xi Jinping said on Friday that the comprehensive, in-depth and high-level development of China-Slovakia relations aligns with the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries, and conforms to the historical trend of openness, cooperation and mutual benefit.
Speaking in a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Xi called on the two sides to continue to deepen traditional friendship, maintain close high-level exchanges and firmly support each other.
Xi also stressed the need for China and the European country to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and ensure the stable and long-term development of China-Slovakia and China-European Union relations.
China welcomes Slovakia's participation as the guest country of honor at the fourth China-Central and Eastern European Countries Expo & International Consumer Goods Fair to be held later this month, Xi said, adding that China is also pleased to see more of its enterprises investing and doing business in Slovakia.
He expressed China's willingness to work together with Slovakia and other countries to address challenges through solidarity and cooperation and to uphold international fairness and justice.
Fico said that deepening the strategic partnership between Slovakia and China is among the top priorities of Slovakia's foreign policy.
He said his country will firmly adhere to the one-China principle, enhance trade and investment cooperation and strengthen cultural exchanges to achieve greater development in bilateral relations.
He also expressed Slovakia's readiness to work with China to uphold multilateralism, safeguard free trade rules and maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
