 擴大內(nèi)需 propel/expand domestic demand

金融危機席卷全球之后，國外市場需求萎縮，打擊了中國的出口貿(mào)易，給外貿(mào)出口和加工制造業(yè)造成了不小的影響。在此次政協(xié)會議召開之際政協(xié)秘書處收到的提案中，就有不少委員建議進一步擴大內(nèi)需，緩解經(jīng)濟衰退的沖擊。

"Most members agree that the country should adopt further measures to propel domestic demand and stimulate consumption," Zhao said. To that effect, he said CPPCC representatives are keen to see how the country's $586 billion economic stimulus package is used.
趙（啟正）說：“大多數(shù)政協(xié)委員認為國家應(yīng)進一步采取措施擴大內(nèi)需，刺激消費?！彼€表示，正因為此，政協(xié)代表們非常想了解國家的5860億美元經(jīng)濟刺激方案的資金使用情況。
在上面的報道中，propel domestic demand就是指“擴大內(nèi)需”，還可以說成expand domestic demand。Domestic demand即指“國內(nèi)需求”。Domestic除了可以表示“國內(nèi)的”，還常用來指“家庭的”。最近的domestic and foreign news（國內(nèi)外新聞）講了不少domestic violence（家庭暴力）事件。Susan is a very domestic sort of woman.（Susan是個十足的家庭婦女），平時也有很多domestic troubles（家庭糾紛），看到這些擔(dān)心極了。
Propel常用來表示“推進、鼓勵”，例如to use oars to propel boats（用槳劃船）。而expand則用來表示擴展，擴張。Jim是個a person propelled by ambition（受野心驅(qū)策的人），總不甘心于現(xiàn)狀。開會時，他抓住機會expand his view（闡述自己的觀點），論述了possibility of expanding trade（擴大貿(mào)易往來的可能），并且expand his short report into a long one.（把他的簡短陳述擴展為長篇報告）。
