 “警犬”協(xié)助救援

5月12日的四川汶川大地震不僅牽動(dòng)著每個(gè)中國人的心，也引起國際社會(huì)的強(qiáng)烈關(guān)注。從5月16日起，日本、美國、英國、俄羅斯等國家紛紛派遣專業(yè)救援隊(duì)趕赴地震災(zāi)區(qū)協(xié)助救援。 在抗震救災(zāi)的一線，除了各類專業(yè)搜救隊(duì)伍在夜以繼日地忙碌以外，來自各地的警犬也在盡力搜尋被埋的遇難者。

嗅探犬的高效、及時(shí)已經(jīng)在四川地震災(zāi)區(qū)贏得廣泛聲譽(yù)。在那里，它們被視為最后一線希望。
The dogs have become heroes in the city. Many residents are refusing to clear debris unless a dog has confirmed there is nobody left underneath. Some families have cut the rations of their pet dogs to supply the professionals.
這些嗅探犬已經(jīng)成了這個(gè)城市的英雄。只有在嗅探犬確認(rèn)房屋殘骸下面沒有人以后居民們才肯將其清理。還有些家庭省下自家寵物狗的口糧供給這些專業(yè)搜嗅探犬。
該報(bào)道中，sniffer dog指的是“嗅探犬，專門嗅探毒品或爆炸物的警犬”?！熬保╬olice dog）因其品種不同，具體所在的工作領(lǐng)域也有所不同，具體說來，有tracker dog（擅長追蹤的警犬），slowhound (一種尤指對血跡嗅覺敏銳的)警犬，bloodhound（偵探犬）等。
Ration這個(gè)詞也需要說一下，它指的是the food allowance for one day或者a fixed portion that is allotted (especially in times of scarcity)，即“定量，配給”或者“限量供應(yīng)”，在這里rations of pet dogs就是“寵物狗的口糧”。
