2025 marks the 100th anniversary of Xiamen's Zhongshan Road. To celebrate this milestone, Siming district has unveiled a high-quality lineup of activities under the "Centennial Zhongshan Road" initiative.
From April 2025 to March 2026, a series of vibrant events are taking place on Zhongshan Road, offering people a cultural feast.
At the press conference, Siming district introduced a series of high-profile annual events, such as Sports Fashion Month and Commerce & Shopping Festival Month. These activities will run throughout the year, blending Xiamen's local charm with international influences.
The lineup includes national-level cultural and tourism exchanges, the development of a sci-tech and digital block, and film and art festivals — all integrating modern elements like art, technology, and creativity.
A special segment titled "Zhongshan Road in My Heart" was also featured at the event. Longtime residents, expatriates, and local business owners shared their personal connections to the historic street, recounting cherished memories and touching stories that highlight its enduring legacy.
Frank, an expat from Cameroon, Africa, has lived and studied in Xiamen for nine years — even finding his wife here. Speaking in fluent Chinese, he said: "Zhongshan Road is an international pedestrian street where you can experience both Chinese cultural elements and Xiamen's local charm. It's very foreigner-friendly!"
In recent years, Xiamen has implemented protective and restorative enhancements to the historical architecture on Zhongshan Road. Today, this revitalized historic district attracts nearly 100 million visitors annually.
